Via satellite, morning 1st of July 09 - local time around 6h36
Arrived yesterday in Little Diomede Island, US by a strenge foggy morning. The atmosphere was really particular…we couldn’t see at first sight the small tiny island…except the millions of birds flying around…was missing the submarine to welcome us:-) knowing on the other side at only 4km, the Big Diomede island is in Russia. Dinghy was put at sea to reach the island. Thierry staid on board as the anker was slightly drifting…security is the priority. Aline, Arielle, cameras & myself are in the dinghy…here, we go 
The locals were indicating us a spot to come on shore…a narrow small way in between various stones & waves…the sea & currents were strong….at arrival….Bangggggg, Aline falls in the icy water…the waves are making the dingy go everywhere…Arielle’ sturn…& oppps in the water…what about the camerasssss…still myself in the dinghy…Arielle gets a grip of the rop…& pulling mad the dinghy while I am rawing crazy crazy crazy…the locals are watching…without helping …like if they were watching an action film with Steven Seagull :-)… its drifting on the rocks…finally, we are all bloody wet..managed to get the dinghy safe on shore…cameras???? a bit of suspense for next episode…. We decide to pull back…bye bye Little Diomede…see you next time…anywhay, it looks a breathtaking spot for birdwatchers… The weather has been bright. Clothes are hanging all over the place :-)…my big winter boots are completely wet…will need to wait 36H to dry them…inside temparture today is 14C…outside 7C. We have past the Arctic Circle yesterday at 22H48 local time…taking pictures of the GPS We are in the Chukchi sea at 67, 07N - 167, 54W …no ice yet observed…map are indicating us icy possibility in coming hours…wait & see… Big winds should arrive… Time to work…low on battery….crew ok…no marine mammals observed yet since the beginning: astonishing ? - See you all later on & have great fun folks - patrick
