Sur ce site vous trouverez le code international des glaces, code de l’oeuf. En haut se trouve la concentration en dixiemes, voir le code pour plus de details. Dans le golfe d’Amundsen l’epaisseur de la glace est de 1.2m, elle ne disparaitra pas rapidement. Le Laurier a quitte le mouillage hier soir et Ocean Watch est a l’ancre dans une baie a 7 milles de nous dans l’W. A+ Thierry

On this site you’ll find the egg ice international code. Inside the egg, at the top is the concentration in tenth, see the code for more details. In Amundsen Gulf the thickness of the ice is 4 feet, it we’ll not melt quickly… Laurier left anchoring yesterday evening and Ocean Watch is at anchor in another bay about 7 milles W of us. Nous attendons au mouillage a cause de la glace, au meme endroit qu’hier et sans doute pour plusieurs jours. Les vents de N ont tasse la glace dans la partie SE du golfe d’Amundsen. Le pack qui etait a 4 dixieme est maintenant a 8,c’est a dire 80 pour cent de la surface occupee. Impossible de passer. Et certains medias qui ne voient plus de glace dans l’Arctique mais des bateaux de commerce y naviguer en toute tranquilite. C’est ca, et le saucisson est un fruit! La nuit derniere le Wilfried Laurier est arrive au mouillage dans la meme baie que nous, ils nous ont donne les cartes de glace et la meteo, merci Laurier. Nous lisons et bricolons sur le Baloum. We are waiting because the ice at anchor, in the same place than yesterday and probably for several days. North winds have squeezed the ice in the SE part of Amundsen Gulf. Pack ice was before 4 tenth, it’s now 8 tenth. And medias who don’t see ice in the arctic but merchant vessels going through quietly. Yes yes, and the sausage is a fruit! Last night Wilfried Laurier arrived at anchor in the same bay than us, they gave us the ice charts and weather forecast, thank you Laurier. We read and work on Baloum. Bye Thierry

Nous avons quitte l’ile Baillie hier a 17h00 loc pour faire route sur le Cap Parry. Notre derniere carte des glace montre un pack qui debute des la cote E du cap. Aussi nous irons mouiller dans l’W en attendant de poursuivre notre route a l’E. Notre position a midi le 4 est 70 09.9N 124 49.2W, nous mouillerons bientôt dans une petite baie. Hier nous avons fait une bonne ballade sur Baillie, nous n’avons pas pu debarquer sur la cote est de l’inlet, il n’y avait pas assez d’eau meme pour le dinghy, nous avons essaye trois fois puis sommes partis de l’autre cote. Nous avons trouve un endroit ou ce n’était pas aise mais possible, Arielle a mis un peu d’eau dans ses bottes. Nous avons marche dans une toundra tres sauvage et vu pas mal de traces de caribous. Apres une heure de marche nous avons trouve un groupe de 13 caribous qui broutaient du lichen. Nous avons pique-nique avant de revenir au Baloum. Apres notre depart nous avons vu plusieurs bœufs musques pres du cap Bathurst, ce fut un jour faste. J’allais oublier une petite chose, nous avons remarque au magasin Northern de Tuk un medicament un peu particulier que j’ai pris en photo. Vous verrez ca sur le site mais sans commentaires. We left Baillie Island yesterday August 3rd at 05 :00pm utc-6 bounding to Cape Parry. Our last ice-chart shows the pack ice begining just close to the E coast of the cape. So we’ll go at anchor in the W and we’ll wait till it we’ll be possible to sail eastward. Our position today the 4th is at 12:00am 70 09.9N 124 49.2W, we’ll be anchored soon in a little bay. Yesterday me had a very nice little hike on Baillie, first we couldn’t disembark on the East side of the inlet, there was not enough depth even for the dinghy, we tried three times then we went on the other side. We find a little spot where it was not easy but possible, Arielle got water in her boots. We walked in a wild toundra and saw many cariboo spoors. After one hour of walk we found 13 cariboos grazing lichens. We picniced and came back on Baloum. After departure we saw musked oxes near Cape Bathurst, it was a great day. I forgot one thing, in Tuktoyaktuk Northern Store we saw a particular medicine, I took a picture. You’ll see on the web site but I’ll not comment it. Bye Thierry

Nous avons mouille a l’ile Baillie hier soir a 21h00 Loc, posn 70 33.1N 128 13.2W. L’ile est juste dans le N du cap Bathurst. Elle est en forme de tete de harpon avec la pointe vers le nord et deux longues baies au S. Nous sommes mouilles dans le S de la baie W dans 2m d’eau. Le ciel est gris et le temps brumeux. Le site est vraiment sauvage, j’attend que les autres se levent puis nous irons faire un tour a terre mais avec nos armes cette fois au cas ou nous fassions la rencontre d’un ours polaire. On ne sait jamais et nous ne voulons pas lui servir de casse-croute! A+ Thierry

We drop anchor in Baillie Island yesterday evening at 09:00pm LT, posn 70 33.1N 128 13.2N. This island is just close to the N of Cape Bathurst. It is like a harpoon head in shape with the head to North and two inlets to South. We are anchored south of the W inlet in 7 feet water depth. Sky is grey and weather foggy. The site is really wild, I am waiting the others wake up then we’ll go ashore but with our guns this time in case we meet a polar bear. We never know and we won’t to be bacon for them! Bye Thierry

Nous avons quitte Tuk hier 1er Aout a 14h15 tu-6. Nous arriverons a L’ile Baillie ce soir. Il fait plus froid qu’a Tuk, le ciel est gris et il y a de la brume. Nous avons vu le brise glace Sir Wilfried Laurier ce matin, quelques floes et aussi des phoques. Je suis en retard pour mon e-mail car je faisais une brioche, c’est la premiere fois, nous verrons le resultat! Notre position a midi tu-6 etait 70 23.2N 129 42.5W A+ Thierry

We left Tuk yesterday August 1st at 02:15pm. We’ll arrive at Baillie Island this evening. It’s colder than in Tuk, sky is grey and there is fog. We saw the Canadian Ice Breaker Sir Wilfried Laurier this morning, heading to Tuk. We saw also a few floes and seals. I am late for my e-mail because I was cooking a brioche, it’s the first time I do, we’ll see the result! Our position at midday tu-6 was 70 23.2N 129 42.5W Bye Thierry

Nous allons quitter Tuk, le vent est faible au SSW. Ce fut une bonne escale, nous avons pu prendre nos douches et laver notre linge au bureau de la police montee. Au Hamlet garage on nous a donne de l’huile de boite au Hamlet garage pour faire la vidange du reducteur et l’eau embarquee par camion fut un don dont on ne connait pas le bienfaiteur. Thank you. Le congelateur communal est creuse dans le permafrost, un puits de 10m donne acces a 3 galeries. Tout est en glace pure, sans sable ni pierres. Il y a 50cm de terre puis 600m ou plus de permafrost. Nous irons en premier a l’ile Baillie dans le nord du cap Bathurst puis ferons route pour depasser le cap Parry ou il y a de bons abris pour attendre que la glace libere la partie SE du golfe d’Amundsen. We’ll leave soon Tuk, wind is SSW but weak. It was a good stop, we took showers and laundry in RCMP Office. In hamlet garage they gave us gear oil to replace it in the reducer and we didn’t pay for the water, it’s a gift but we don’t know who. Thank you. The community freezer is bored in permafrost, a pit of 30 feet high give the access at 3 galleries. All is in pure ice, no sand or stone inside. There are 2 feet of ground then 1800 feet or more of permafrost. We’ll go first Baillie Island, in the north of cape Bathurst then we’ll sail after cape Parry where there are good shelters waiting the ice melt in the SE of Amundsen gulf. Bye Thierry
